The Hunter region is well equipped to meet the education needs of adults and children alike, with over 240 primary schools, 28 of which are within Maitland. The region also has 48 secondary schools and 25 private schools, a range of selective and specialist schools and a number of options for children with special needs.

Those seeking tertiary education are also very well served within the Hunter region. The University of Newcastle is one of Australia’s most highly regarded institutions and offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the key areas of Business, Law, Education, Arts, Engineering, Health, Science, and Information Technology. The region’s largest provider of vocational education and training services, the Hunter Institute of Technology, has nine campuses throughout the Hunter, offering a broad range of accredited courses.
